Purpose
The purpose of FOI is to provide an opportunity for internationals living in the Mobile, Alabama area to make friends with people from around the world. You are invited to participate in the many activities FOI offers to build friendships and become involved in the local community. Our goal is to make every person feel welcome here in Mobile, regardless of age, race or religion.
Mobile's International Community
- There are over 1,200 international students at the University of South Alabama representing over 100 different nations in all. USA's high percentage of international enrollment places it among the nations top 20 schools.
- Many refugees from across the globe relocate here to make a new home in the United States. Mobile is the only designated point of relocation for refugees in the state of AL.
- Because Mobile is a port city, several international companies have made Mobile their home. They bring with them a sizable number of international employees who also make Mobile their home.
Campus Director
David and Anna Chavali met while they were students studying at the University of South AL. David relocated from India and Anna moved to Mobile from Miami, FL. Their experiences as international students have helped them develop an understanding of the importance of hospitality in adjusting to a different culture and lifestyle. They have been involved in serving and leading FOI for over a decade, and today they continue to use this experience in their service of international students at the University of South Alabama. David, Anna, and their daughter, Angeli, can't wait to meet you and introduce you to other students from all over the world.
